District Meeting Highlights: Spring 2026

The Spring District meeting brought together representatives from all 19 Chapters across South West Lancashire for an afternoon of fellowship and important discussions about the future direction of the District.

Key Announcements

The Inspector General opened proceedings by welcoming all members and expressing his gratitude for the continued dedication shown across every Chapter. He highlighted several areas of achievement over the past twelve months, including a notable increase in new membership applications.

“The strength of our District lies not in numbers alone, but in the quality of the fellowship we share and the sincerity with which we approach our ceremonies.”

Several important points were discussed during the meeting:

  • The annual Provincial gathering will take place in September at Liverpool Masonic Hall
  • Three Chapters have reported record attendance figures over the past year
  • A new mentoring programme will be introduced for recently perfected members
  • Plans for a District-wide charity initiative were presented and approved

Looking Ahead

The District continues to strengthen its commitment to excellence in ritual, fellowship, and charitable endeavour. All members are encouraged to participate actively in their Chapters and to support the initiatives announced at this meeting.

Full minutes of the meeting will be circulated to Chapter Recorders in due course. Any member wishing to discuss the matters raised should contact their local Chapter Recorder or the District office.

New Members Welcomed Across the District

The District of South West Lancashire is pleased to report a thriving membership across our Chapters, with a number of new members having been perfected during the current season.

A Warm Welcome

Each new member brings fresh energy and enthusiasm to our Order. The Ancient and Accepted Rite continues to attract Master Masons of the highest calibre, drawn by the beauty and depth of our ceremonies and the genuine fellowship that exists between members.

“To be perfected into the Rose Croix is to embark upon a journey of profound spiritual reflection. We welcome every new member with open arms and look forward to walking this path together.”

The Journey of Membership

For those unfamiliar with the process, becoming a member of the Rose Croix begins with an approach to a local Chapter, usually through a proposer who is already a member. The candidate must be a Master Mason in good standing and profess the Christian Trinitarian faith.

Once proposed and seconded, the candidate is balloted for at a regular meeting of the Chapter. If successful, a date is arranged for the ceremony of perfection — one of the most beautiful and moving ceremonies in all of Freemasonry.

Liverpool Masonic Hall Restoration Complete

After eighteen months of careful restoration work, Liverpool Masonic Hall has been returned to its former glory. The project, which involved specialist craftsmen from across the region, has preserved the building’s magnificent Victorian interior while ensuring it meets modern standards of accessibility and comfort.

A Building of Distinction

Liverpool Masonic Hall has been a landmark of the city since its construction in the mid-nineteenth century. Its grand façade and richly decorated interior have long been admired by visitors and members alike. The restoration has ensured that these features will continue to inspire for many years to come.

Particular attention was paid to the ornate ceiling plasterwork, the stained glass windows, and the mosaic flooring in the main entrance hall. Each element was meticulously cleaned, repaired, and where necessary, recreated using traditional techniques.

Modern Amenities

Alongside the heritage restoration, the building has been fitted with modern heating and lighting systems, improved accessibility throughout, and upgraded facilities for catering and events. These improvements ensure the Hall remains a welcoming and practical venue for ceremonies and social occasions.

The District extends its thanks to all who contributed to the restoration fund and to the project team who carried out the work with such skill and sensitivity.

District Charity Raises £25,000 for Local Hospice

The District of South West Lancashire is proud to announce that its year-long charitable campaign has raised over £25,000 for Queenscourt Hospice in Southport. The funds were raised through a combination of Chapter donations, individual contributions, and a series of fundraising events held throughout the year.

A Collective Effort

Every Chapter in the District contributed to the campaign, demonstrating the strength of fellowship and shared purpose that characterises the Rose Croix. From sponsored walks along the Sefton coast to quiz nights and raffles, members found creative and enjoyable ways to support the cause.

The Inspector General expressed his heartfelt thanks to all who contributed, noting that the total significantly exceeded the initial target of £15,000.

Making a Difference

Queenscourt Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families across Southport, Formby, and West Lancashire. The funds raised by the District will support the hospice’s vital work, including its community nursing service and bereavement support programme.

A presentation ceremony will be held at the hospice in the coming weeks, at which the Inspector General will formally hand over the donation on behalf of the District.

Mentoring Programme Launches for New Members

The District is pleased to announce the launch of a new mentoring programme designed to support members who have recently been perfected into the Rose Croix. The scheme pairs each new member with an experienced companion who can guide them through the early stages of their journey in the Order.

Why Mentoring Matters

The transition from Craft Freemasonry to the Ancient and Accepted Rite can be a significant step. While the ceremony of perfection is a deeply moving experience, new members often have questions about the structure of the Order, the meaning of the ceremonies, and how they can become more involved in their Chapter.

The mentoring programme addresses these needs by providing a trusted point of contact — someone who has walked the same path and can offer guidance, encouragement, and fellowship.

How It Works

Each Chapter has been asked to nominate experienced members willing to serve as mentors. New members will be paired with a mentor from their own Chapter wherever possible, ensuring that the relationship is supported by regular personal contact at meetings and social events.

Mentors will receive a brief handbook outlining the programme’s aims and offering practical suggestions for supporting new members. The programme will be reviewed after its first year to assess its effectiveness and gather feedback from participants.

A Reflection on the 18th Degree Ceremony

The ceremony of the 18th Degree, from which the Rose Croix takes its name, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and profound ceremonies in all of Freemasonry. In this article, we reflect on its themes and enduring significance.

A Journey of Faith

At its heart, the 18th Degree is a journey of faith. The candidate is led through a narrative that explores the great themes of loss, searching, and rediscovery — themes that resonate deeply with the human experience and with the Christian faith that underpins the Order.

The ceremony is conducted in a quiet and dignified manner, quite different in character from the bustle of a Craft Lodge meeting. This contemplative atmosphere allows the candidate to absorb the rich symbolism and reflect upon its personal meaning.

Symbolism and Meaning

The Rose and the Cross, the two central symbols of the degree, represent the union of love and sacrifice, of beauty and duty. Together they speak to the deepest aspirations of the human spirit and to the Trinitarian faith that all members profess.

“The 18th Degree is not simply a ceremony to be observed; it is an experience to be lived. Its lessons stay with you long after the evening has ended.”

Members who wish to deepen their understanding of the ceremony are encouraged to attend the District’s annual lecture series, details of which will be circulated in due course.

District Secretary Honoured with Grand Rank

The District is delighted to announce that our District Secretary has been honoured by the Supreme Council with the rank of Very Illustrious Brother, in recognition of his many years of dedicated and exemplary service to the Ancient and Accepted Rite.

Years of Devoted Service

Having served as District Secretary for over twelve years, his contribution to the smooth running of the District has been immeasurable. From organising meetings and maintaining records to advising Chapters and supporting new members, his quiet efficiency and unfailing courtesy have been appreciated by all who have worked with him.

“This honour is richly deserved. His tireless work behind the scenes has been the backbone of our District for more than a decade, and we are all deeply grateful.”

A Modest Response

True to form, the recipient received the news with characteristic modesty, expressing his gratitude to the Supreme Council and to the many colleagues who have supported him throughout his time in office. He emphasised that the honour reflects the strength of the District as a whole, rather than the efforts of any one individual.

The formal investiture will take place at the next meeting of the Supreme Council in London. The District extends its warmest congratulations and thanks.

Visiting Brethren Welcome at All Chapter Meetings

One of the great pleasures of membership of the Rose Croix is the ability to visit other Chapters and to experience the warmth of fellowship that exists throughout the Order. The District of South West Lancashire warmly encourages all members to visit Chapters beyond their own.

Why Visit?

Visiting another Chapter is a wonderful way to broaden your experience of the Rose Croix. Each Chapter has its own character and traditions, and there is much to be gained from seeing how different Chapters approach the ceremonies and conduct their meetings. It is also a splendid opportunity to make new friends and to strengthen the bonds of fellowship across the District.

Practical Information

All that is required is to contact the Chapter Recorder in advance to confirm your attendance. A full list of Chapters, their meeting dates, and contact details can be found on our Chapters page. Visitors are asked to bring their Rose Croix certificate or a current dues card.

Whether you are a newly perfected member curious to see another Chapter at work, or a seasoned member looking to renew old acquaintances, you will always find a warm welcome waiting for you.
